VOLUNTEERING AT THE EXPO

Expo volunteer check-in is located in Meeting Room at the Baton Rouge RiverCenter. Parking available in the RiverCenter East and West parking garages (344 St. Louis Street, $5 charge) or on-street parking where available. Volunteers are advised to enter the RiverCenter via St. Louis Street entrance.

VOLUNTEERING AT THE RACES OR FESTS

Saturday race and family fest volunteers must check-in outside of the Louisiana State Museum (440 North 4th St.) – please look for Volunteer signage to locate the check-in area. Parking available at Galvez Parking Garage (free) on Main Street or any available on-street parking.

Sunday race and finish festival volunteers must check-in at the State Capitol Welcome Center (900 North 3rd St.). Parking available at the Welcome Center Parking Garage (entrance on North Street, $5 charge) or street parking where available.

Saturday and Sunday race/festival volunteers can pickup volunteer t-shirts at the Louisiana Marathon Expo on Friday, January 17 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or Saturday, January 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in meeting room 10.


JOIN THE RACE KREWE

Volunteers make the event successful. The Louisiana Marathon needs nearly 1,000 volunteers for important roles throughout the course of the weekend – before, during, and after each of the four races. Race Krewe members receive a Louisiana Marathon Race Krewe t-shirt, specials for future events (race registrations, clinics, event dinners, …).

GROUPS WELCOME

Interested in getting your school, organization, business or group involved in volunteering during the Louisiana Marathon weekend? Email the Volunteer Coordinator to learn more about roles that are group friendly, including water station support and finish festival stations. Organizations that have a 501(c)3 designation may be eligible for a donation.

GENERAL VOLUNTEER ROLES

Wednesday, January 15 // The Expo at the Louisiana Marathon
  • Assist in the setup and organization of The Expo
  • Handle premium items, assembling poster boxes, rolling and inserting posters into boxes

Thursday, January 16 // The Expo at the Louisiana Marathon
  • Assist in the setup and organization of The Expo
  • Handle premium items, assembling poster boxes, rolling and inserting posters into boxes
  • Assist vendors with load-in of booths and displays
  • Assist with the setup and organization of registration materials, t-shirts and packets

Friday, January 17 // The Expo at the Louisiana Marathon
  • Provide staff support during The Expo to organizers, vendors, info/ customer service representatives
  • Registration and Packet Pickup – Help registration staff distribute packets and t-shirts
  • Assist the info desk (FAQ’s provided but knowledge of the event and/or city is helpful)

Saturday, January 18 // The Advocate 5K & Kids Marathon
  • Assist timing team in distributing finishing times; PC usage experience required
  • Assist with start/finish line, and course management/monitoring
  • Setup and distribution of water on courses
Saturday, January 18 // Family Fest Setup
  • Assist festival team in setup before The Advocate 5K & Kids Marathon
  • Distribute various food and beverage items at and around the festival
  • Distribute beer during the Finish Festival (must be 21 yrs old)
  • Distribute food from food village
  • Filling various support roles
  • Assist festival staff in tear down and clean-up
Saturday, January 18 //The Expo at the Louisiana Marathon

  • Assist festival team in setup
  • Distribute food and beverage vendors
  • Distribute beer; must be 21 years of age
  • Distribute food from food village during Finish Festival
  • Provide security & distribute food at the Showcase tent
  • Support security and service of the VIP area
  • Fill various support roles during the festival
  • Assist with tear down and clean-up
Sunday, January 19 // Third Shift – Tear Down (1 PM arrival)
  • Assist in tear down of Finish Festival
  • Assist in tear down of Finish line areas
  • Inventory and pack merchandise
  • Load storage containers and trucks for shipping
Monday, January 20 // Warehouse – Covington, LA
  • Return event equipment and items to warehouse in Covington, LA
  • Assist with inventory and reorganize warehouse with new items

Water/Aid Stations

Seventeen (17) water/aid stations are manned by hundreds of volunteers on Louisiana Marathon race day throughout our full and half marathon courses.
Below is the number and location of each station and the organization currently manning that station for the 2014 Louisiana Marathon:
