Basic Beginner Training Plan by FRESHJUNKIE

A 14-week schedule beginning on October 12th. The entire 14 week training plan is emailed at once in a PDF calendar to the runner once they sign up. The runner will then receive an email every four weeks explaining the next 4 week block of training. The training plan is based on accomplishing distance workouts with minimal emphasis on speed/pace work. This plan is best for beginning runners who are looking to improve performance in the total distance they are able to run without as much focus on pace or speed.  It also works well for runners who have completed this race distance before, but want to improve their race preparation with a set training schedule they can plan for.

The beginner plan is geared towards the first time distance runner whose primary goal is to FINISH. This is recommended for people who are:

  1. Running 2-3 times per week for at least 3 weeks prior to beginning the 14 week schedule
  2. Half Marathon Plan: are able to run 3 miles without stopping to stand still (periodic walking is okay)
  3. Marathon Plan: are able to run 5 miles without stopping to stand still (periodic walking is okay)

Training framework:

  • 3-4 runs per week (1-2 Easy 1 Moderate, 1 Long)
  • 1-2 strength sessions per week (does not have to be a gym)

Basic Intermediate Training Plan by FRESHJUNKIE

  2. Half Marathon Plan: be able to run 4 miles without stopping or walking
  3. Marathon Plan: be able to run 7 miles without stopping or walking

Training framework:

  • Higher volume than the Beginner Plan
  • 4-5 runs per week (1-2 Easy, 1 Speed, 1 Long)
  • 1-2 strength sessions per week (does not have to be a gym)

Online Beginner Training Plan by FRESHJUNKIE

A 14-week schedule beginning on October 12th that is accompanied by an online account created on Training Peaks (iphone and Android apps available). Training schedules are uploaded in four week blocks, with some customization based on individual performance.

The runner will receive weekly email containing:

  1. That week’s training objective
  2. FRESHJUNKIE and Louisiana Marathon supplemental training resources (strength, stretching, nutrition, equipment)
  3. Insider Louisiana Marathon Course information
  4. Guidance on establishing personalized running paces and Heart Rate (HR) zones to use during training and race day
  5. Access to the FRESHJUNKIE run coaches via email.

Who is this plan for? This plan is best for runners who are looking to improve performance related to pace and speed and not just overall distance covered and runners who train with GPS and/or Heart Rate (HR).

The beginner plan is geared towards the first time distance runner whose primary goal is to FINISH. This is recommended for people who are:
