The Louisiana Marathon Charity Partners
The Louisiana Marathon® proudly welcomes the following charity partners to our event and we hope you can run for a cause, a friend, a loved-one. We have helped raise over $240,000 in our first three years and our goal is to raise over $250,000 in 2015.
International Rett Syndrome Foundation
“The International Rett Syndrome Foundation is thrilled to partner with the Louisiana Marathon to raise money for drug discovery efforts to Reverse Rett syndrome. We’ve raised over $80,000 of our $100,000 goal. The partnership with the LA Marathon is simple and empowering, and allows teams to bond while getting healthy too. Why wouldn’t you do it?”
- Kathryn Kissam, Board of Directors, International Rett Syndrome Foundation
Rett syndrome is a genetic neurological disorder occurring almost exclusively in females and becoming apparent after 6-18 months of early normal development. The resulting regression leads to lifelong impairments, including lost speech, seizures, scoliosis, irregular breathing patterns, and more than half of the children and women lose the ability to walk. Those diagnosed with Rett syndrome require maximum assistance with basic daily activities.

Ainsley’s Angels are athletic ride-along programs created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who normally would not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. To sum it up, we are a volunteer-based service that provides jogger chairs, bike trailers and rafts for anyone who is disabled (Known as Captains) and runners (Known as Angels) to push them in endurance events.

Teach for America
“Teach for America is pleased to be a partner of The Louisiana Marathon. This event continues to grow and after our corps members hosted a water station in 2013, we are pleasured that now runners can fundraise for Teach For America as part of the Marathon. Our corps members will also be Kids Ambassadors in area schools as we work in concert with Louisiana Runs & The Louisiana Marathon to increase health and fitness in our youth. With runners from 47 states and 11 countries we are excited for the Marathon this year and know that this great event gives us the opportunity to raise the profile of Baton Rouge, get the word out about Teach For America’s work in Louisiana and promote health and wellness to our community.”
– Michael Tipton, Executive Director of Teach For America – South Louisiana
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center
“Cancer prevention starts with a healthy lifestyle, so it is with great enthusiasm that we partner with the Louisiana Marathon. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is thankful for this unique awareness and philanthropic opportunity to improve survivorship and lessen the burden of cancer.”
- Ethan Bush, Vice President & Chief Development Officer, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
“The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is very pleased to partner with the 2014 Louisiana Marathon. This event will help the CF Foundation invest in research that is accelerating our race to find a cure, and in turn, creating a tremendous amount of hope. Our mission is to find a cure and to improve the quality of life for all those living with cystic fibrosis. We have made tremendous gains, but our work is not done. We are looking forward to a long, mutually beneficial relationship with the Louisiana Marathon and thank all those who have signed on to join us in our fight.”
- Natalie Sunstrum, Development Manager, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
“Like the Louisiana Marathon and in life, it won’t be easy, but it will be awesome. Awesome ain’t easy.”
