Meet Pace Leader for 2:00 Half, Monica Morgan

200h_monica-01Where are you from?

Baton Rouge, La.

When you aren’t running, what are you doing? What’s your day job?

I am the System Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services for Ochsner Health System (I’m a pharmacist by trade). When I’m not running, I’m working or reading something pharmacy related most likely.

What is your best time at your favorite distance?

My favorite distance is the half-marathon for which my PR is 1:41.

What is your favorite part of the Louisiana Marathon course?

My favorite part of the course is the path along the LSU lakes!

What has been your favorite half or full marathon and why?

Chicago was my favorite full marathon because the spectators are incredible and Chicago is such a neat city! My favorite half marathon is the LA HALF because it’s an expertly organized race with the best post-race party I’ve ever been to!! I have to throw in my favorite 15k because the Hot Chocolate races are all they are advertised to be—the chocolate fondue at the post-race party is worth traveling for!

What is your bucket list race?

Big Sur and probably any race in Germany or London. I’d love to travel to Europe to do a marathon.

What is your pre-race meal of choice?

Tandoori steak with naan bread and cous cous—sounds weird, I know! A good baked potato also goes a long way!

For people visiting Baton Rouge / Louisiana, what would be your top recommendation for what to do / eat / see?

I think the river views from the levee downtown are stunning. I also think the old state capitol is a beautiful building to tour. (Once we get a new tiger, RIP Mike VI, you have to visit the tiger). It’s also nice to sit outside at our local brewery, Tin Roof, and enjoy a cold one!
